HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. The bronze Order of Saint Michael medal was awarded to three sergeants major during the Army Aviation Association of America and 3rd Combat Aviation Ball, March 21 at the Marriott hotel in Savannah.

Colonel Don Galli, commander of the CAB and CAB Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Stidley presented the awards to Command Sgt. Maj. Patrick Blair, of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment; Sgt. Maj. Jesse Dawson, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 603rd Aviation Support Battalion; and Sgt. Maj. William Gammon, HHC, 3rd CAB.

"It's an honor to receive this award," said Gammon. "This is tangible recognition of the years of service each of us have put into the aviation branch. It's a satisfying feeling to even be nominated by your peers in aviation."

The Order of Saint Michael recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Army Aviation by demonstrating the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displaying an outstanding degree of professional competence, and serving the United States Army Aviation or civilian aviation community with distinction.

The award served a two-fold purpose by honoring the sergeants major's contributions in the aviation field and also by recognizing them as NCOs, said Stidely.

"The Order of Saint Michael is a significant award that shows years of dedication to aviation," Stidley said. "We are further honored to recognize these three men as (noncommisioned officers) who have not only helped to further the aviation branch but also to further the development of countless Soldiers who have served under their leadership."
