WASHINGTON -- More than 1,400 people attended the U.S. Army Military District of Washington's first-ever Celebrating America's Army: "An Evening with Heroes and Voices" outdoor musical extravaganza April 20-21 at the Women In Military Service For America (WIMSA) memorial outside of Arlington National Cemetery.

The patriotic showcase, which featured Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," brought history to life through a dramatic light show, rousing music, patriotic video vignettes, historical narration and Soldiers dressed in period uniforms as part of an awe-inspiring production.

""An Evening with Heroes and Voices" holds a special place in my heart," said Maj. Leonel A. Pena, The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" associate conductor. "It's a chance to celebrate the Army, and honor my fellow Americans for their patriotism to our country and fellow neighbor."

The show honored and recognized the sacrifices and celebrated the contributions of our Soldiers, first responders, medical professionals, educators and teachers, who continue to meet the needs of our nation, through selfless service, during some of the most challenging times in our history.

Each performance was hosted by U.S. Army leadership. Acting Secretary of the Army Robert M. Speer hosted April 20 and The Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Flora D. Darpino hosted April 21.

An additional show was scheduled for April 22, with Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington Maj. Gen. Bradley A. Becker as the host, but was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Celebrating America's Army: "An Evening with Heroes and Voices" was dedicated to those Americans who despite wearing a different uniform, have spent their lives helping others, leading by personal example, inspiring others through their actions and making an impact on our lives.

The U.S. Army Military District of Washington serves as the Army Forces Component and core staff element of Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region which conducts operations that deter, prevent and respond to threats aimed at the National Capital Region; and conducts world-class ceremonial musical and special events in support of our Nation's leadership.
