On Saturday the Fort Knox High School Eagles' track and field team traveled to Louisville's Kentucky Country Day High School to compete in the Kentucky Country Day Bearcat Invitational. The Eagles' had their work cut out for them as they competed against 16 other schools, but the boys' team brought home a championship plaque by placing first out of 16 teams. The girls' team brought home the runner-up plaque by placing second out of 16 teams.
In the mixed unified 400-meter dash freshman James Daniel and eighth-grader Joshua Daniel placed first with a time of 1 minute, 19 seconds. In the mixed unified 100-meter dash James and Joshua placed first with a time of 19.00.
On the girls' side in the 100-meter hurdles sophomore Alexandra Lawson placed first with a time of 15.80 and sophomore Abby Donohue placed fourth with a time of 18.04. The girls' 4x100-meter relay team of Zniah Stokes, Madelyn Wible, Marissa Wells and Jamya Meekins placed fifth with a time of 56.06. In the 1600-meter run eighth-grader Claire Donohue placed 12th with a time of 6:39.42. The girls 4x200-relay team of Taylor Nordman, Abby, Wible and Fabienne Rienl placed third with a time of 1:53.90. In the 100-meter dash Lawson placed first with a time of 12.58 and seventh-grader Sage Tudryn placed sixth with a time of 13.85. In the 200-meter dash Lawson placed first with a time 26.05 and Tudryn placed fifth with a time of 28.48. In the 400-meter dash Doehring placed second with a time of 1:06.06 and Nordman placed 13th with a time of 1:11.09.
For the 300-meter hurdles Lawson placed first with a time of 49.73 and Abby placed second with a time of 52.43. The girls 4x400-meter relay team of Doehring, Reinl, Tudryn and Nordman placed second with a time of 4:33.87.
In the girls' field events Rienl placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 14-10 and Kayla Reynolds placed ninth with a jump of 12-07. In the high jump sophomore Kaitlyn Cornes placed second by clearing a height of 5-00 and Doehring placed third by clearing a height of 4-10. In the discus event senior Olivia Vasquez placed sixth with a throw of 67-08 and sophomore Marissa Wells placed 15th with a throw of 40-01. In the shot put Vasquez placed fifth with a throw 27-11 3/4.
In the boys' track events senior Nate Callison placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.34 and Josh DeRivas placed third with a time of 11.54. In the 1600 meter run sophomore Orlando Rojas placed fourth with a time of 5:01.36 and freshman Yadiel Rojas placed ninth with a time of 5:13.58.
The boys' 4x800-relay team of Joseph Daniel, Christian Hart, Noah Kopp and Luis Corona placed seventh with a time of 9:28.10. In the 3200-meter run Orlando placed second with a time of 10:56.90 and Yadiel placed sixth with a time of 11:51.21. The boys' 4x100-relay team of Ahlec Santiago, Craig Perches, Josh DeRivas and Callison placed first with a time of 43.86. In the 200-meter dash junior Geoffrey Gradney placed third with a time of 23.44 and senior Craig Perches placed seventh with a time of 23.99. The boys' 4x200-relay team of DeRivas, Santiago, Geoffrey and Perches placed first with a time of 1:32.50. In the 110-meter hurdles junior Alex Eklund placed first with a time of 18.30. For the 300-meter hurdles senior Matt River placed second with a time of 43.40 and Eklund placed fourth with a time of 44.50. In the 800-meter run Kopp placed sixth with a time 2:15.75 and Joseph placed eighth with a time of 2:16.99. In the 400-meter dash seniors Christian Acevedo placed ninth with a time of 55.35 and Juan Acevedo placed 16th with a time of 56.74. The boys' 4x400-relay team of Cole Wilson, Juan, Christian and Jarrod Reiter placed fifth with a time of 3:48.19.
In the boys' field events Callison placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 20-1/2. In the triple jump Santiago placed first with a jump of 41-09 1/2 and freshman Sidney Gradney placed sixth with a jump of 35-11 1/2. In the shot put senior Christian Castro placed fifth with a throw of 40-06 1/4. For the discus throw Castro placed fifth with a throw of 95-03. In the high jump senior Rivera jumped a personal best and placed first with a jump of 6-02 and senior Zach Loiselle placed third with a jump of 5-10.
The Eagles' next track and field meet will be Saturday when the team travels to Bardstown, Kentucky, to compete in the Clash of the Classes track meet.
