Maj. Gen. Christopher Ballard, commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), met with Col. Dustin Shultz, commander of the 505th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater), during his visit to Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis March 31. His arrival followed the Intelligence Oversight staff visit earlier that week.

The general was briefed on the brigade's operational readiness before touring the facilities and speaking with Soldiers. Ballard also recognized Soldiers and civilian personnel with the INSCOM Commanders coin.

Ballard also presented the Knowlton Award to Lt. Col. Shawn Dodge, 505th MIB deputy commander, and Lt. Col. Ivan Palacios, 505th MIB T intelligence security operations chief. The Knowlton Award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Army military intelligence in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipients, their superiors, subordinates and peers.

The visit by Ballard and the Intelligence Oversight staff helps ensure the brigade continues to properly support INSCOM intelligence directives and gives the commanding general an opportunity to assess and give guidance towards operational capability objectives.

The 505th MIB is a multi-component unit that conducts theater level, multidiscipline intelligence analysis operations to support U.S. Army North in the defense and security of the United States and its interests.
