REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command announced the names of the directors for its Future Warfare Center and Technical Center March 23.

Richard P. DeFatta, was named the director of the Future Warfare Center, and Thomas E. Webber was named the director of the Technical Center.

"This was a rigorous selection process that included a panel of Senior Executive Service members from across the Army science and technology community, a review by the Department of the Army, and final approval by the acting Secretary of the Army," said Lt. Gen. James H. Dickinson, commanding general, USASMDC/ARSTRAT. "Both Mr. DeFatta and Mr. Webber have been in acting roles for their respective directorates for several months and both have demonstrated the leadership, expertise, and genuine care for people to take their organizations to new heights. Their past experience and performance made both of them ideal selections for these positions."

DeFatta has served as acting director for the Future Warfare Center since September 2016 but has been with the command since 2013. He began with the Technical Center, but moved to the Future Warfare Center as the director for Capability Development and Integration Directorate in April 2016.

"I'm very excited and honored to continue serving the Army and SMDC/ARSTRAT as the Future Warfare Center director," DeFatta said. "Our equities in space and global ballistic missile defense are at the forefront of the Army's emerging technologies and capability developments and growing in importance to our warfighting joint forces in future conflicts.

"I'm privileged and proud to continue working with the outstanding FWC workforce - Soldiers, civilians, and contractors - that execute our important mission in Huntsville, Colorado Springs, Fort Eustis, Washington D.C., at the various Training and Doctrine Command Centers of Excellence, and onsite with our space and GMD operators," he continued. "Looking to the future!"

Webber has served with the Technical Center in a number of positions over more than one tour, with the most recent beginning in May 2010.

"I am extremely honored to have been selected as the director of the Tech Center and for the privilege to lead the talented men and women of this great organization," Webber said. "I am excited about the future and the role the Tech Center will play in delivering relevant technologies to our Warfighters."

Dickinson congratulated both men on their selection.

"Please join me in congratulating Mr. Rick DeFatta and Mr. Tom Webber in their selection for the highly competitive, rewarding, and challenging positions as directors of the Future Warfare Center and the Technical Center," Dickinson said.
