BETTENDORF, Iowa -- Maj. Gen. Edward Daly, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, conducted a Global Town Hall for approximately 550 ASC Soldiers and civilians in the Quad-Cities Waterfront Convention Center, here, March 22.
Daly focused his first Global Town Hall, hosted last November, on his own "force assessment." He emphasized the importance of ASC's strategic alignment with Army Materiel Command's mission and vision.
Daly asked ASC personnel during his second town hall to consider the difference between "doing the right thing" and "doing things right."
"I want everyone to understand the importance of being on the same sheet of music," Daly said.
"Today I want to make sure that everybody walks out of here understanding their place in our organization.
"I know each and every one of you strives to do the right thing, but to achieve mission success we need to learn what the right things are and then shift our focus on doing things right," Daly said.
ASC's mission is to integrate and synchronize the delivery of AMC capabilities and enablers at the operational and tactical point of need.
"The sun never sets on ASC, so we need a predictive battle rhythm," Daly said. "We are Continental United States-based, globally deployed, regionally aligned, and ready to engage."
"We are AMC's quarterback," Daly said, quoting Gen. Gustave Perna, commanding general, AMC.
"Our vision must be nested within AMC's vision," Daly said.
AMC develops and delivers materiel readiness solutions to ensure globally dominant land force capabilities. AMC's vision is: sustain the current-to-future force by utilizing state of the art technologies, materiel lifecycle support, and integrated logistics while ensuring materiel and technological overmatch.
"ASC quarterbacks AMC's mission of supporting the warfighter on the frontlines wherever they're located," Daly said.
Daly thanked ASC personnel for their tremendous work, calling ASC personnel "the [command's] center of gravity."
"ASC personnel are key to mission success, so we are strengthening our people programs -- such as Wellness and Equal Employment Opportunity -- to another level," Daly said.
"Taking care of people means developing and training them," Daly said. "It is the most important thing we do.
"I commit to your development and to your Individual Development Plans," Daly said, referring to a key element of the Strategic Human Capital Action Plan.
After giving a presentation on operational priorities and the Strategic Human Capital Action Plan, Daly presented 15 ASC staff personnel with awards and recognitions as follows:
