As part of the Commandant's Leader Development Outreach Program, the U.S. Army Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood recently hosted Special Agent in Charge Eric Jackson, Federal Bureau of Investigations Kansas City Field Office, for a leader development lecture on team building.
Senior leaders from across the school and 14th Military Police Brigade were joined by police officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, Sullivan Police Department and Camden County Sheriff's Department for participation in the lecture.
Jackson led the session by educating leaders on the mission of the FBI and what they have done in the surrounding areas.
The next topic focused on leading during a crisis and how to prepare your team to lead in a crisis. This topic touched on mission command in the capacity of empowering agile and adaptive leaders, and sometimes having to accept risk.
Lastly, the session discussed creating an environment where people can enjoy themselves and excel within that environment.
Although the presentation was civilian law enforcement specific, it did include many of the principles of mission command and demonstrated the applicability of our team building skills. The FBI proves to be a critical conduit for building vital relationships with law enforcement organizations as the Regiment professionalizes the formation on behalf of the Army.
