HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-- The Joint Munitions Command hosted an exhibit at the Association of the U.S. Army Symposium and Exposition: Global Force 2017 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, March 13-15.
JMC's presence at AUSA provided the opportunity to demonstrate partnering opportunities and capabilities that exist within the command, creating global awareness of the importance of JMC's organic industrial base and its mission to provide operational readiness for the Army as well as the Joint Forces and allies.
More than 6,000 attendees and exhibitors took part in this year's AUSA. The exhibits focused on several topics of interest to the military and industry leaders who attended.
With its exhibit, JMC informed potential industry partners of public-private partnership programs and lease agreements in programs like the Armament Retooling Manufacturing Program.
"The ARMS program allows the Army to retain benefits by keeping the facilities available for the future by preserving jobs and skills in the area. The program also reduces the cost of ownership, keeps the facilities viable and available for potential use, while obtaining a return on investment," said Denise Argo, ARMS analyst at JMC and one of the subject-matter experts staffing the JMC exhibit. "AUSA is the perfect venue to reach out to potential businesses and discuss a possible partnership."
Such partnerships between commercial industry and government-owned facilities are lucrative for commercial customers, while providing a benefit to the industrial base through modernization, thereby saving taxpayer dollars.
JMC subject-matter experts also presented the capabilities of the ammunition organic industrial base in support of Warfighter readiness. The exhibit showed how JMC installations have synchronized their mission and vision to support the priorities of the Secretary of Army. The SMEs, which included individuals from several career programs prevalent in JMC, described how the industrial base uses advanced technologies in inventory scanning and tracking to secure and control ammunition commodities, ensuring that JMC is efficient, effective, and the best value. SMEs were also available to answer questions about ammunition display items that were brought from several of JMC's installations.
JMC SMEs taking part in the forum included COL Sean Herron, McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Commander; LTC Aaron Wolfe, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant Commander; Kevin Hocker, Logistics Management Specialist; Gary Budelier, General Engineer; and JaMarlon Figgs, General Engineer. JMC leadership also attended the forum.
