Fort Huachuca, Arizona -- The Fort Huachuca's Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted the FMWR/Sierra Vista Riding Club (SVRC)/Cochise College Rodeo Mar. 4 and 5 at Wren Arena here showcasing professional bull and bronco riders. with competitors participating in various events from the Fort Huachuca and surrounding communities.

Approximately 3,000 attendees watched competitors from Fort Huachuca and the surrounding communities in various events over the two-day rodeo.

James Thomas, FMWR's special events and logistics coordinator, attributed the high attendance to temperatures and more competitors.

"Weather was great," Thomas said. "Every year seems to be getting better and better. We had more bull riding and bareback broncos than last year."

Thomas said that the Solider volunteers from Alpha Company, 2-13th Aviation Regiment, and Bravo Company, 305th Military Intelligence Battalion, who helped set up and tear down was greatly appreciated. He also thanked the Sierra Vista Riding Club, Cochise College and the MWR Special Events Team for all that they do.

One of the most popular annual events at the rodeo is the Panty Race where teams of four compete to put a large pair of underwear on a cow and then escort the cow, still wearing the garment, across a finish line on the opposite side of the arena. This year Alpha Company, 2-13th Aviation Regiment, won Saturday's race with the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center Medical Command team winning on Sunday. Winning units received $100 for their unit funds.

The Cochise College men's and women's teams were both overall points winners for the weekend. The men's team collectively scored 580 and the women's team score of 445 earned them first place.

The top placers in the men's All Around Points was Jalen Joaquin with 280 and in the women's All Around, Hayley Ramona Dalton-Estes with 315, both from Cochise College Rodeo Team.

Saddle Bronc Riding winner, Jalen Joaquin, took first place with a score of 137. The Bareback Riding winner was Tristen Rio Lee scoring 130. Jalen Joaquin also won the Bull Riding event with a score of 70. The Tie-Down Roping event's best time was captured by Garrett Adam Hendrix at 23.1 seconds. Owen Patrick Salcito dominated the Steer Wrestling event with a time of 12.1 seconds.

A New Mexico State University team took home the Team Roping win with a time of 14.4 seconds by Tate Chandler Shelley, header, and Karter Steph Bearup, heeler. Lakota Lee Bird of Central Arizona College won the Barrel Racing event with a time of 36.57 seconds with New Mexico State University's Arianna Shalynn Assini recording the fastest time in Breakaway Roping at 6.5 seconds. Cochise College's Hayley Ramona Dalton-Estes won Goat Tying with a time of 14.8 seconds.
