Command Sgt. Maj. Trevor Walker symbolically took possession of the noncommissioned officer's sword from Command Sgt. Maj. Bradley Houston March 9 at Lincoln Hall Auditorium -- signifying Walker as the new U.S. Army Engineer School regimental command sergeant major.

Houston assumed responsibility as the engineer school senior enlisted adviser in June of 2015, but his time on Fort Leonard Wood goes back to his days as a drill sergeant and again with 1st Engineer Brigade.

"It has been the highlight of my career to serve as your command sergeant major, and I am proud of what you represent," Houston said.

Houston will assume responsibility as command sergeant major at the Joint Improvised-Treat Defeat Organization in Virginia.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Houston has demonstrated to all what it means to be a capable regimental command sergeant major," said Brig. Gen. James Raymer, U.S. Army Engineer School commandant. "His impact will be felt for years to come."

Raymer welcomed Walker and his Family back to Fort Leonard Wood, saying he was the right Soldier for the job.

"(Walker) has been preparing to assume this position for his entire Army career," Raymer said. "We selected him among a group of incredibly well-qualified peers for this position as regimental command sergeant major."

Walker, a native of North Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, thanked Houston for a smooth transition into the command- sergeant-major role.

"I will not let you or the Engineer Regiment down. (Houston) will be a hard act to follow," Walker said.

Walker said being at the Engineer Regiment and Fort Leonard Wood is an honor and a privilege.

"I will do whatever I can to continue to improve the regiment," Walker said. "I am looking forward to being a part of this great team of teams."

Walker is coming to Fort Leonard Wood from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

He joined the U.S. Army and completed One Station Unit Training here in 1989.

Walker's assignments include assignments at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Korea. In addition to serving as command sergeant major of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, he was also command sergeant major for 169th Engineer Battalion, here.

Walker has attended numerous schools, training programs and civilian institutions, including: First Sergeant Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Sapper Leader Course, and Assistant Master Resilience Trainer Course.

He is currently attending American Public University to earn his Master of Arts in Management.

Walker's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one oak-leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak-leaf cluster.

He is a member of the Sgt. Audie Murphy Club and is a recipient of the Army Engineer Association's Bronze de Fleury Medal.
