The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood welcomed its new command sergeant major in a ceremony Friday in Nutter Field House.
Command Sgt. Maj. Jon Stanley, who assumed responsibility as the top enlisted leader for MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood during the ceremony, is no stranger to Fort Leonard Wood. He completed One Station Unit Training and was the command sergeant major for 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade here.
Stanley replaced Command Sgt. Maj. Roy Ward, who retired following 33 years of service to the Army.
"Today, Command Sgt. Maj. Ward not only relinquishes responsibility, but he culminates 33 years of honorable service," said Maj. Gen. Kent Savre, MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. "Roy has been instrumental in developing our young leaders here at Fort Leonard Wood. He consistently expressed the importance of education commitment and selfless service."
Savre highlighted the leadership and mentoring Ward provided to the service members across the installation daily, including himself.
"(Ward) has always been a leader from the front, and he's always had my back," Savre said.
Ward took the opportunity to thank those who have been supportive during his time at MSCoE, pointing out it was because of the great team and their support that made his final assignment successful.
"I am so grateful that my last ride was with this organization in this community," Ward said. "It has truly been an honor."
Savre next turned his attention to Stanley.
"As the Army Song goes, the Army keeps rolling along. As great leaders move on, great leaders step up," Savre said. "I take great pleasure in welcoming Stanley to our team of teams here at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence."
Ward added, Stanley is the right command sergeant major for MSCoE, saying it was a "perfect fit."
"(Stanley) brings a unique set of insights and perspectives and many other essential attributes that will help this organization do great things," he said.
Stanley thanked MSCoE leadership for giving him the opportunity to join the team.
"I am truly excited to be involved with this well-oiled machine here at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence," he said.
Stanley was most recently the command sergeant major for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff-Engineer, U.S. Army Europe Headquarters. His assignments include Company D, 10th Engineer Battalion, Kitzengen, Germany; Co. C., 307th Engineer Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado.
He wears the master parachutist, Air Assault and Combat Action badges, as well as Sapper and Ranger tabs.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with six oak-leaf clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with five oak-leaf clusters.
