FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Soldiers and Families from 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment "Golden Dragons," 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) celebrated the recent bout of warmer weather by going for a fun run and collecting food for veterans Feb. 28.

Lt. Col. Jeremy Gwinn, 2-14 Infantry commander, challenged all six companies to collect food. The Golden Dragons collected 545 pounds of food for the organization Feed Our Vets. Golf Company led the way by collecting 168 pounds of food.

"We decided to support Feed Our Vets because its outreach is farther than other organizations. Their hub is in Ithaca, and then they disperse the food throughout the state," said Capt. John Powell, operations officer and organizer of the event.

Feed Our Vets has provided free food assistance to more than 20,000 veterans and their Families. The organization's mission is to help veterans and their Families whose circumstances have left them on the battlefield of hunger. Feed Our Vets maintains pantries throughout New York where veterans can access nonperishable food at no cost.

Organizers declared that the Frozen Dragon Fun Run was a great success. Participants started the 2.14-mile run at 2-14 Infantry headquarters.

They took a short break in the middle for a picture at the Military Mountaineers memorial and completed the run with a breakfast at the battalion.

"As part of (Joint Readiness Training Center) recovery, we wanted to conduct a low-intensity training event in which we incorporated all Golden Dragon Families and built unit cohesion," said Capt. Joseph Gray, 2-14 Infantry intelligence officer and unit family readiness liaison.
