A Crocker, Missouri, native returned home to Fort Leonard Wood to serve as senior enlisted advisor to the 1st Engineer Brigade.
Command Sgt. Maj. Jerimiah Gan assumed responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Holschbach in a ceremony held Friday.
Col. Dale. Snider, 1st Engr. Bde. commander, offered a public farewell to Holschbach, saying his trusted advisor, his "battle buddy," was everything a senior noncommissioned officer should be.
"It is with a sad heart I let the Army take him from us," Snider said, "but another unit needs him. They need his skill, his leadership, his love of people. Fort Bliss, Texas, will be a better place because of you, Command Sgt. Maj. Holschbach."
Holschbach, who will assume responsibility as the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Bliss command sergeant major, was awarded a Legion of Merit before the ceremony.
Snider then welcomed Gan to the brigade.
Gan, who was born at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, returns for his fifth tour of duty at Fort Leonard Wood.
"I am very humbled and thankful for this opportunity to serve as the command sergeant major of the 1st Engineer Brigade," he said. "This is where it all started for me."
Gan's assignments to Fort Leonard Wood included 5th Engineer Battalion, twice, as a team and squad leader, drill sergeant school, 35th Engineer Battalion as a drill sergeant, 31st Engineer Battalion as a first sergeant and Sapper Leader Course as the 12th chief instructor.
In his remarks, Gan laid out his two-part plan that consists of accomplishing the mission and taking care of the Soldiers.
"We will train hard to meet our mission and produce Sappers who can fight and win our nation's wars," he said. "I promise to do my very best to continue to serve the brigade, the Engineer Regiment and the Army as well as our community with selfless service and loyalty."
