On Feb. 16, 2017, Robert L Goodman, Chief of Staff, Office of the Surgeon General and US Army Medical Command, held a town hall at the Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church, Virginia.

Goodman emphasized the main focus of Army Medicine. That focus is medical readiness in support of Army readiness. Readiness is the no. 1 priority of the Army and medical readiness is the no. 1 priority of Army Medicine. Everyone's focus must be readiness, he said.

Everything focuses on readiness, he said. If we do things not related to readiness or directly in support of readiness, we will ask why we're doing it.

Our reason for existing is to facilitate readiness at the Regional Health Commands or Subordinate Commands throughout Army Medicine. We have to be successful, he said.

Goodman recapped some ongoing issues, bringing staff up to date. He briefly touched on the National Defense Authorization Act, commenting that there are questions yet to be answered. We will continue to meet all regulatory and statutory requirements, he said.

Goodman discussed documenting performance objectives, which will help to focus Army Medicine on readiness.

A great deal important activity and decision-making goes on every day at Army Medicine that affects the future medical readiness of the force. "There are a lot of things swirling," Goodman said. "That makes it high excitement, high adventure every single day that I come to work."
