The Fort Wood Community Spouses' Club, through a grant from the Fort Leonard Wood Thrift Shop, delivered gift bags to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital's Maternal Child Unit Feb. 10.
The stress of being miles away from family, due to the military lifestyle, can leave some moms feeling overwhelmed. The great thing about a military community is people come together to help where they can.
Donations like these gift bags are just one way the FWCSC gives back to the community, said FWCSC President, Mary Lee McMillan.
"The Spouses' Club is proud of all our community outreach," McMillan said. "Plus, it's fun. Everybody loves babies."
Honorary President Mary Beth Savre agrees.
"This is something I've wanted to do since I arrived," Savre said. "It's so nice to welcome the new babies to the Army Family and the Fort Leonard Wood Team of Teams."
The FWCSC has delivered nearly 200 layette bags to the hospital since November, 2016.
"Seeing the reactions was the best part," McMillan said. "We know what we're doing makes a difference."
