ZAGAN, Poland-- Soldiers of the U.S. Army's 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, deployed to Poland in support of Atlantic Resolve, were involved in a minor traffic accident in the vicinity of Skwierzyna today.

A passerby called a local fire department, who immediately arrived to assist in the recovery efforts, and U.S. forces have arrived on the scene to coordinate follow-on recovery operations.

The U.S. Army unit, part of the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, will recover the vehicle and return it to Drawsko Pomorskie as soon as the fire department has cleared the scene.

Currently, no injuries to personnel or significant damage to roads, bridges or infrastructure have been reported. The cause of this incident is currently under investigation.

"The leaders of the 3rd ABCT, 4th Inf. Div., make every effort to ensure the safety of its Soldiers and military equipment operators," said Capt. Scott Walters, public affairs spokesperson, 3rd ABCT, 4th Inf. Div. "This is a top priority for the successful accomplishment of U.S. forces' mission in Eastern Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve."

"Prior to arriving in Europe, all 3rd ABCT drivers received training on European traffic laws and regulations; all drivers conducted annual traffic safety and accident avoidance training," Walters said. "Troop leaders will review unit procedures for transporting logistical supplies on Polish public roads to ensure proper precautions are taken while using public roadways."
