WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe formally recognized 10 officers for their excellence in leadership at the 28th Annual USAREUR-level Gen. Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award ceremony held here, Jan 25.

Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, U.S. Army Europe commanding general, commended the Soldiers for their selfless service and dedication to leadership during the ceremony.

The GDMLA program was introduced in 1987 to recognize company-grade and junior warrant officers who demonstrate MacArthur's ideals of "Duty, Honor, Country," and have a proven record of extraordinary performance, leadership and achievement.

"Thousands of USAREUR company grade officers and junior warrant officers were eligible for this year's GDMLA," Abner Davila, lead human resources specialist for USAREUR G1. "These ten fine officers will continue to serve and will always remember that this day they were selected by their commanders and by their major commands as the elite.

Davila credited James K. Miller and Garrett Knoche of the G1 Awards and Actions Branch and George Seiferth for presentation of the awards ceremonies, and the USAREUR Protocol section. "This team effort was a large part of the GDMLA success. We all know we couldn't do it without each other," he said.

The Army level winners are expected to be announced in April 2017 and a ceremony recognizing the winners will be held in Washington, D.C. at the end of May.
