WIESBADEN, Germany - U.S. Army Europe recognized some of its top performers during a brief ceremony at the 2017 Winter Commanders Conference at Clay Kaserne Jan. 25.

Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, USAREUR commander, presented the top honors to this year's

MacArthur Award, Commanders Cup and the Eisenhower Writing Competition

winners.

"I know that every person in here is committed to leader development," said Hodges. "It's one of our three enduring priorities, and so I'm happy to see each year we have these awards to see a crop of great men and women who demonstrate that excellence."

The Eisenhower Writing Competition recognizes contributions by Soldiers and

civilians who write professional articles for publication that highlight

evolving tactics, techniques and procedures throughout the command. More

than 70 articles were submitted from the past year.

"There were so many great articles," said Sgt Maj. Richard Puckett, the

program's coordinator. "It was awesome seeing the range of topics and ideas.

What made it special this year was the efforts of contributors by a wide

variety of ranks from sergeant to colonel."

Winners of the 2016 Eisenhower Writing Competition were:
