Planning for the 2017 Defense Department Warrior Games is in full-swing. If you're not competing in the games this year, your spirit can certainly be put to good use!

To show support for all of the wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans who compete in the yearly competition, the DoD is inviting all of its personnel, military families, caregivers and supporting organizations the chance to contribute through the Spirit Poster Challenge.

The 8th annual games, which are hosted by the Navy this year, will be held in Chicago from June 30-July 8. More than 250 men and women from all branches of the military will compete in eight Paralympics-style sports, including wheelchair basketball, swimming, archery and track and field.

Are you good at making posters and being generally supportive of a little friendly competition? Then we urge you to help out!

You can submit your designs as a PDF file electronically by emailing dodwarriorgames@gmail.com through Feb. 3. The chosen designs will be posted in an album on the Warrior Games Facebook page. People can vote on their favorites from Feb. 13-17. The top 3 posters, which will be determined by the number of "likes," will be announced on that same page and on the Warrior Games website on Feb. 21.

There are a couple of requirements to be considered, but they're pretty simple:

-- Posters have to include the 2017 DoD Warrior Games logo and the hashtag #WarriorGames.

-- Posters can include photos from last year's event (as long as there's no copyright).

-- They have to be in good taste and reflect good sportsmanship.

Otherwise, let your creative freedom flow! And click here for the full rules.

The top three posters chosen on Facebook will be used to help promote the Warrior Games on DoD social media, websites and digital platforms, as well as on video and in print.

The Warrior Games are more than just competition -- they're a chance for our service members and veterans to build support networks and relationships with other men and women of similar disabilities, helping rebuild their sense of community and recovery.

So bust out those markers, make a poster and show your support!
