FORT GORDON, Ga. (Jan. 20, 2017) -- The Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center is hosting School Screenings Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at the second floor lobby pharmacy area.
The one-day event is a "onestop, four-point" screening that meets the Georgia state requirements for children entering Georgia
Public Schools for the first time. The Saturday event is beneficial since all clinics are solely devoted to the school screening mission. Several patients will have the same time slots to group patients by their needs.
"Time slots rather than an appointment time are given in order to stager patient flow," said Lt. Col. Karen Gooden, chief nurse executive of Family and Community Medicine, Soldier Care, and OB/GYN.
Screenings are for children entering pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, ages five through 19 years of age. Children must be at least four years old on the day of the screening.
"The screening consist of height and weight, body mass index, dietician consult, hearing and vision, and immunization review," said Gooden.
During the event, parents will have the opportunity to gather family health education material and speak with a dietician for nutritional information and guidance on dietary-consult appointments. Information will also be available regarding benefits and TRICARE enrollment.
To schedule your child's school screening appointment, call (706)787-7300 Monday through Friday, except on Federal Holidays, between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
To ensure a smooth flow of screenings for new Georgia children, DEERS information should be current at least one week prior to screening appointment. For enrollment, go to www.tricare.mil.
Copies of all patient records need to be provided to the outpatient records office at least one week prior to screening. The Outpatient records department is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays or call (706)787-2939 for more information.
The school screening is a onetime screening and does not include sports, cheerleader or band physicals. A separate appointment with the primary care manager is required.
