WIESBADEN -- German Brig. Gen. Markus Laubenthal, U.S. Army Europe's chief of staff, visited the Wiesbadener Kurier's publishing house for background discussions with the editorial leadership and journalism trainees of the newspaper on the missions and operations supporting the European Reassurance Initiative, here, Dec. 21, 2016.

The Wiesbadener Kurier is a regional, daily newspaper serving the area in and around the state capital of Hesse, Wiesbaden.

In 1945, Col. James R. Newman, then-head of the U.S. Military Government in Hesse, gave the Wiesbaden Kurier its printing license, which allowed them to publish their first newspaper, a 4-page edition, Oct. 2, 1945.

The newest housing area in the U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden footprint, Newman Village on Clay Kaserne, is named after the former Hessen U.S. Military Government head.
