ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- In order to ensure Army and Joint Force readiness, the Joint Munitions Command (JMC) has updated its strategic priorities and objectives.

"As we continue to face possible future Sequestration and a Continuing Resolutions (CRA), it is imperative that we maximize each dollar we receive. We need to be effective and efficient to ensure best value for the Warfighter. The changes we have made to JMC's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and objectives should assist us with this endeavor," said Brig. Gen. Richard Dix, Commander, JMC.

"Our first goal was to ensure that the JMC mission and vision were nested with AMC's mission and vision, while still illustrating JMC's unique capabilities and mission," said Dix.

JMC's mission statement was edited to include specific mention of the Army, since JMC is a subordinate command of Army Materiel Command (AMC) and the Army. The JMC vision includes only one change, the addition of the term "demilitarization expert" to reflect all four of JMC's core competencies: store/surveil, distribute, demilitarize, and produce ammunition when required.

After AMC released new strategic priorities in October, JMC's strategic planners acted quickly in response.

"Utilizing the methodology called 'Sprint Teams' resulted in a fresh look at our business throughout the command and has resulted in three new strategic priorities," said Kelly Gilhooly, JMC G-5 Chief of Plans.

JMC's three new strategic priorities are munitions readiness, future capabilities, and force development. These align with AMC's strategic priorities of strategic readiness, future force, and Soldiers and people, respectively.

"With these three strategic priorities, JMC will work the associated strategic objectives that will drive senior leader decisions and integrate and synchronize our major efforts. We are driving towards an effective and efficient organization, ensuring the best value for our customer," said Rhonda VanDeCasteele, JMC Executive Director for Ammunition.

There are ten strategic objectives that will further develop the three strategic priorities. Sprint Team 3 is currently formulating tasks under the strategic objectives. Once JMC leadership has approved the proposed tasks, work will begin on fulfilling the strategic objectives.
