STUTTGART, Germany -- Maj. Gen. John L. Gronski, U.S. Army Europe's deputy commanding general for National Guard, hosted the St. Nicholas Day holiday reception at the U.S. Forces Liaison Office for Baden-Württemberg, here, Dec. 9, 2016.

The U.S. Forces Liaison Office holds the reception every year to honor German officials who work with U.S. forces on projects benefitting the both U.S. forces and Germany.

"I want to thank you for what you do every day to strengthen our alliance and to protect our communities and our families," Gronski said to nearly 50 German federal, state and local officials. "By working closely together here at the state, county, and city levels, the Baden-Wuerttemberg and Stuttgart communities and the U.S. military community -- contribute daily to keeping our alliance strong and the people of our countries safe."

In his remarks, Gronski also noted the many cultural ties between the United States and Germany. This is due in great part, he said, to the many Germans who immigrated to the American colonies and to the young United States, particularly to his home state of Pennsylvania.

Among the officials present were the Lord Mayor of Boeblingen Wolfgang Luetzner, Inspector of Police Detlef Werner, and the Deputy Commander of the Bundeswehr State Command German Col. Dieter Bohnert. The reception provided them an opportunity to chat with Gronski and discuss with him his role as the general officer for force protection and senior responsible officer for the U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart community.
