Mission Excellence Praised as Commanding General Focuses on Employee Accomplishments

Employee accomplishments and well being combined with setting the environment for mission excellence drew the focus of Maj. Gen. Doug Gabram, AMCOM Commander at the Dec. 14 AMCOM Town Hall.

"We've had some spectacular accomplishments and achievements, and I want to recognize those first," Gabram said. "Then we will talk about our command climate survey, from which we just received the results. We will also talk about readiness."

Gabram presented the Commander's Award for Civilian Service to Rakeshi Ransaw, an AMCOM supervisory logistics management specialist and Utility Helicopters matrix employee in the Program Executive Office for Aviation.

The award recognizes Ransaw's coordination of the AMCOM response to her efforts on the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter's Main Rotor Blade. Specifically, Ransaw coordinated all the logistics actions, facilitated engineering testing and insured blades were available for issue to the field.

Three employees received Achievement Medals for Civilian Service:

* Bonnie Rushworth of the AMCOM Logistics Center's Black Hawk Division for volunteering to lead numerous team training events.

* Crayton Lamar 'Bulldog' Stearns, an AMCOM Security manager, for his work in managing security programs.

*Sherrone Wallace, an AMCOM Security manager, also for in managing security programs.

In addition, the following AMCOM employee received service certificates recognizing them for 30 years or more of service: Madonna Buckner and Marlon Turner, both of ALC; Cynthia Janes of ALC; Cevelyne McCauley and Cosette Young, of the Command Group.

Gabram also recognized James Lackey, director of the Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center, who is leaving government service in January.

"You've made incredible contributions," Gabram said to Lackey. "Thanks for being a great teammate, especially with Unified Action and all the things we have done."

And, he recognized Heidi Collier, with a command coin, for coordinating AMCOM's Leader

Investment for Tomorrow Program.

Then, Gabram turned his attend to the command climate survey

"Let us together try to get after this and work at it," Gabram said of the findings. "I think we can improve. I need everybody on board. There is so much good here."

In line with that, Gabram said that the command will increase counseling sessions for employees using the New Beginnings personnel program and will improve communication throughout AMCOM.

The command received positive comments from employees who believe the command is mission focused and who gain a sense of satisfaction from supporting warfighters. Several gave examples of good first line supervisors and expressed their appreciation for the AMCOM Town Halls.

Gabram hopes to improve communication actions by way of supervisor professional development, encouraging senior leaders to spend more time talking to employees and by hosting lunch round tables where employees are invited to talk to senior leadership.

He also said that AMCOM is looking at re-invigorating its mentoring program.

"The most important thing I do is leader development and talent management," Gabram said. "Leader development involves, first, an individual's self-development as a leader. It also includes operational development in the workplace and professional development involving education."

Before closing the Town Hall, Gabram emphasized the AMCOM goals of trust, team, relationships and attitude.
