General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH) follows Fort Leonard Wood (FLW) weather closure guidance. Emergency and inpatient services are always open, however other services will close whenever access to the base is restricted or employees are released from duty for public safety. We understand this may effect standing appointments and commit to rescheduling care with the least impact possible.

In the event that our clinics are open, but it is not safe to travel, please call us at 573-596-1490 or

866-299-4234 to reschedule your appointment.

Steps to take during adverse weather if you have an appointment:

1. Remain safety minded and stay informed about the current weather situation on and off Fort Leonard Wood.

2. Call the hospital appointment line at 573-596-1490 or 866-299-4234 and listen to the recorded opening announcement for guidance regarding hospital service closures and delayed starts.

3. In the event of a delayed start, appointments affected by the delay will be rescheduled. Appointments not affected remain as scheduled.

What to do for emergency, urgent, or routine healthcare during adverse weather conditions:

• Emergency medical needs: Anyone with an emergent care need should report directly to an Emergency Room or call 911 to activate Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

• Urgent care: GLWACH recommends patients call the TRICARE Nurse Advice Line at 800-TRICARE (874-2273), Option 1. NAL is available 24/7/365. The advice nurses will provide self-care advice and/or assist patients with programming urgent care support.

• Routine, pre-scheduled care: DO NOT seek care. The hospital will try to contact you before your appointment, when feasible, and not later than the next business day to reschedule.

• Exception: In the event of an early closure, patients already at the hospital for an appointment should check with clinic staff to confirm or reschedule.

We remain committed to providing patients with the best access to excellent health care. This adverse weather guidance is designed to answer most questions during adverse weather situations. Patients can call our information desk at 573-596-0035 for more information.
