Fort Huachuca, Arizona - Another year is almost gone and Fort Huachuca is busy preparing for the Night of Extraordinary Lights, or NOEL, event set for 4-9 p.m. Dec. 9 and 2-9 p.m. Dec. 10 at Brown Parade Field.

Organized by Fort Huachuca's Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation, this event has attracted more than 4,000 community members in years past. The event is free and open to the public. This event has something for the entire family, including our neighbors in the community.

NOEL's main attraction is a holiday stroll, which takes participants through a Christmas wonderland, including light displays featuring Christmas favorites such as Santa Claus, reindeer, angels and Baby Jesus. Arts and crafts, as well as holiday movies and ice skating, are on the schedule of events, truly making NOEL an event for all.

"This time of year the children of Fort Huachuca and the surrounding communities look forward to seeing Santa Claus in the Gazebo of Brown Parade Field during FMWR's NOEL, Night of Extraordinary Lights event," said James Thomas, special events coordinator, DFMWR. "They also have the opportunity to try their skills on the artificial ice rink."

A past participant, Capt. Abigail L. Tassa remarks, "We move just about every 24 to 36 months due to my Army commitments so it has been a challenge for us to preserve the customary holiday traditions. The holiday events on [Fort Huachuca], such as NOEL, have helped bridge that gap and have given us the opportunity to create lasting holiday memories."

Kathy Miller, DFMWR Marketing, offers the perfect summary of the event.

"NOEL gives families the opportunity to get away from the stress of shopping and preparation for the holidays, and spend time together and enjoy timeless holiday traditions--all at no charge for admission," she said.

Bundle up the family and prepare to have some holiday fun at NOEL,

"We will have s'more pits to roast s'mores each night, a children's tent for arts and crafts activities, horse 'lead-arounds', holiday light displays, arts and craft vendors selling their wares, holiday movies and photo opportunities with the new MWR polar bear attraction," Thomas said. "Concessions will be catered by the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre and available for purchase.

"We hope to see you there!"
