The United States Army Garrison Daegu said farewell to Deputy to the Garrison Commander William E. Christman during the Hail & Farewell on November 17.

He expressed his gratitude and attributed his achievements to USAG Daegu community that have supported the Garrison.

"This has been without a doubt one of the most rewarding times of my life", said Christman. "What we have done to support the community and mission, it all goes to you, every person in this room and all the people you represent. Whether you are the plumber of the Directorate of Public Works or folks at the Visual Information Service Center or Post Office or wherever they happen to be, you help take care of things. I appreciate all the outpourings."

"He has been Deputy to the Garrison Commander for 11 years", said Col. Ted Stephens. "I'm the seventh commander and Command Sergeant Major Abreu is the sixth he has worked with. That's a lot of experience that he has contributed to the development as well as each and every one of you. I couldn't have had a better person to work with on a daily basis. He has a wealth of knowledge, common sense, and excellent judgement. I think we have been able to see the progress as we moved along over the last few years."

Christman is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, who received his commission in 1974 through the Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps after graduation from the University of California at Berkeley. He became U.S. Navy aviator in 1975, a helicopter pilot specialized in anti-submarine warfare.

Christman served in various positions like test pilot and Chief of Naval Operations staff. He retired in July 2004 from the Navy. The Deputy to the Garrison Commander position is Mr. Christman's first in civil service. In this capacity he assists the Garrison Commander of U. S. Army Garrison Daegu.

"He was really comfortable to work with", said Ms. Chon, Kyong Chin, garrison command admin assistant. "I still remember all the jokes he had made. Now that he is retiring, I hope that he will be happy in his new life. I really learned a lot working with him. Thank you, for all the things I learned from you while working with you. Don't forget me, sir!"

"It's touching to know that people appreciate what I have done", said Christman. "But that is all reflection of what you have done."

Christman will be presented his award and have a farewell dinner on November 18.
