United States Army Garrison Daegu Commander Col. Ted Stephens hosted, Nam-gu Mayor Lim, Byung-heon and members of Nam-gu Korea-U.S. Friendship Council at a luncheon at the Evergreen Community Club on Camp Walker, November 15.
KAFC is an official meeting to make a friendship and to encourage a mutual relations between USAG Daegu and the local community. Here in Daegu, Camp Henry and Camp Walker is located in Nam-gu District. USAG Daegu have a regular meeting with Nam-gu officials and this is a second time this year.
The members of the KAFC discussed four topics including the 'Global Apsan Camp'. The 'Global Apsan Camp' is an English program to provide opportunities for the elementary and middle school students ran by USAG Daegu and Nam-gu District. 'Global Apsan Camp' started at April 2007 and it is a monthly course for elementary and middle school students. About 2,848 students with 90 terms had graduated the class.
Second, there was a couple of strayed golf balls complaints in this September and October. Golf balls broke the resident's vehicle window and fell in the yard of the house. So, Nam-gu District requested for the safety of the nearby residents and raise the safety net completed within the year.
Third, the district officials requested for cooperation with housing development near Camp Walker base. Nam-gu District is currently planning on Baenamugol housing redevelopment project and need the quick review about any restrictions to the building height and use against the military facilities.
Lastly, the Nam-gu District is working on the project for building 'Korea-U.S. Friendship Street' nearby Camp Walker. It is to develop a safe and bright cultural street with a theme of ROK-U.S. and improving old and obsolete urban infrastructures around the U.S. Army base. The personnel of the district required for the ideas or proposals that would be reflected in the project.
"Nam-gu District will do our best to maintain the mutual cooperative relationships between the U.S. Army through KAFC", said Nam-gu Mayor Lim, Byung-heon.
At the KAFC luncheon, USAG Daegu Command Sgt. Maj. Juan A. Abreu, Deputy Garrison Command Mr. William E. Christman and directors of Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, Public Affairs Office, Directorate of Public Works and Directorate of Emergency Services attended the meeting. From Nam-gu Council, Chairman, Suh, Seok-man and Vice Chairman Park, Woo-keun and from Nam-bu Police Station, Chief Yoon, Jong-jin were present.
The meeting was concluded with a meal shared by the garrison and Nam-gu KAFC members.
