Chambersburg, Pa. -- In early 2016, the Precision Fires Rocket and Missile Systems Project Office contacted Letterkenny Munitions Center after identifying a training requirement for Foreign Military Sales purchases of the Multiple Launch Rocket System. The Family of Munitions Common Test Device training is part of the Army's total package approach.

In response to this requirement, LEMC developed an exportable training package and mobile training team that will begin operations in 2017. The training package includes LEMC developed materials for the course at the operator level for both MCTD, the field test set for the MLRS Family of Munitions and MCTD-Trainers, which functions as a simulated pod training device, allowing operators to train without live munitions.

"Our team has a great relationship with the program office. We've provided training before to Quality Assurance Specialists Ammunition Surveillance both within the U.S. and overseas as part of our Global Missile Maintenance Team effort," said Mr. Joshua Shaul, Electronics Equipment Mechanic Leader, LEMC. "It was just a matter of creating an actual training course with handouts, exams, etc... We created them according to specifications and they were approved by the program office."

The training includes five days of classroom instruction and practical application leading to improved readiness and the interoperability of partner nations. LEMC's mobile training team will deploy to several partner nations beginning in 2017 to present the training package and can mobilize for future requirements.

In early 2016, LEMC was designated as the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellent for Army Tactical Missile Systems; Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and Low-Cost, Reduced-Range, Practice-Rocket Missile Maintenance by the Secretary of the Army.

LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of Joint Forces and international partner nations.
