The Honorable Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning, placed a wreath with other dignitaries in front of the Alamo during the 17th Annual Veterans Parade held on November 21, 2016. Major General Brian Lein, Commanding General U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School, joined Secretary Fanning and leaders from other military branches along with two Texas State Senators at the ceremony. Afterwards Major General Lein and Command Sergeant Major Rhoades participated in the downtown parade.

Organized by the United States Military Veterans Parade Association the annual parade was first started in 2000 to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. The parade was part of the Celebrate America's Military events held throughout the City of San Antonio.
