FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- Soldiers assigned to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital and the Fort Leonard Wood Dental Activity tested their Army Warrior Training skills at the Military Police Military Operations in Urban Terrain site Friday.

Army Warrior Training is designed to refresh and test Warrior tasks. Soldiers assigned to the hospital could get tasked to deploy if a need arises. Being proficient in both medical and Soldier skills are vital to the whole Soldier concept.

"Every Soldier's primary job is to be a Soldier," said Fort Leonard Wood Harper Dental Clinic Dental Hygienist, Spc. Brandon Zimmer. "So, while we're all proficient in our various medical aspects, we also need to be able to step in if we're out in the combat zone acting as Combat Live Savers or Medics. If the Infantry guy in front of us gets hit we've got to step in and take his spot."

The Soldiers tested on basic movement patterns, IED identification, room clearing procedures and medevac operations. MEDDAC Company Commander, Capt. Matthew Doellman said each AWT event scheduled focuses on different Warrior tasks.

"The readiness of Soldiers identified for potential deployment is especially critical and 24/7 operations at the hospital make training like this difficult," Doellman said.
