FORT STEWART, Ga. (Oct. 21, 2016) - Families and Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division conducted a 5 km run for breast cancer awareness on Fort Stewart, Ga., Oct. 21, 2016. Runners were encouraged to wear pink in support of those who have experienced breast cancer.

Beverly Drummond, mother-in-law of Master Sgt. Darren Outler, noncommissioned officer in charge of the property book office for 2nd IBCT, returned from the run route to an applauding group and spoke at the conclusion about her personal struggle with cancer.

"I am a breast cancer survivor," Drummond said with tears in her eyes. "It's nice to know that you have people behind you when you're going through something. When you have people behind you and supporting you, it makes all the difference in the world."

The event raised over $2,500 from participants for breast cancer research which was donated through the Combined Federal Campaign.

"It was a great turn out," said Sgt. Latasha Blunt, a supply specialist with HHC and planner of the event. "Combining our CFC and our breast cancer awareness run together was the best thing we ever did."

The CFC is the official workplace giving campaign of the federal government whose mission is to promote and support charity giving.
