"Nothing but blue skies always on my mind;

Blue skies on my mind.

I promised your blue eyes

I'd never be unkind."

These lyrics are from what was little Lexi Gordon's favorite song, "Blue Skies," by an American folk artist from New York who performs under the name Jaymay.

But for blue-eyed Lexi, daughter of Fort Polk Soldier Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Gordon and his former wife Tracy, life -- fate --was tragically unkind.

As with all parents eagerly awaiting the arrival of an already-loved child, March 2, 2011, the day Lexi was born, was a joyful event. And as she grew, her parents' love for her grew. Every baby milestone was a memory maker: That sweet toothless smile, the first tentative lift of her head, the strengthening focus of those big blue eyes, the first infectious gurgle of laughter.
