Maj. Gen. Bradley A. Becker, commanding general, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington hosted the Prime Minister of Italy, His Excellency Matteo Renzi, for an Armed Forces Full Honors Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Arlington National Cemetery Oct. 19, 2016, in honor of the Prime Minister's official visit to the United States.
According to the U.S. State Departments website, Italy is a steadfast and active transatlantic partner and the U.S. and Italy have sought to foster democratic ideals and international cooperation, especially in areas of strife and civil conflict. The U.S.-Italy partnership is one of the nation's strongest, as Italy is a leader in peacekeeping and military operations around the world. Italy has also worked closely with the United States and others in combating drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorism. Over the past two years, Italy has been an early and active partner in the fight against ISIL and Ebola.
