FORT BENNING, Ga., (Oct. 19, 2016) -- The Fort Benning Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host its annual Oktoberfest Oct. 21-23 at Uchee Creek.

Oktoberfest is free and open to the public. There will be a variety of events to attend including a Dachshund Derby, a keg tossing competition and stein hoisting contests. Festivities will begin Friday at 4 p.m.

"Oktoberfest only gets bigger every year," said Bridgett Siter, Marketing and Social Media specialist for the DFMWR. "This time we've added a new band who's coming all the way from Germany. They'll be more vendors, games and competitions as well."

"Oktoberfest serves as so much more than just a festival," she added. "It's a way of celebrating the camaraderie that exists between us and our German neighbors as well as our friends from the Columbus, Phenix City and Chattahoochee Valley areas."

Siter hopes that everyone will come out to enjoy Oktober fest. "It is the biggest and the best celebration of its kind in the Southeast. If you've never been to Oktoberfest you should come see what you're missing. If you have been, then I'm sure you'll be back this year," she said.

Food and souvenirs will be available to purchase with tokens. Individuals can purchase tokens prior to Oktoberfest in Building 228. Tokens can also be purchased onsite. Unused tokens can be redeemed for full cash value onsite as well.
