FORT BENNING, Ga., (Oct. 5, 2016) -- Eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney visited the Maneuver Center of Excellence Oct. 4 to share tickets with Soldiers to his second annual Physique and Fitness Games.
"We want to honor the Soldiers and make sure they know that we appreciate them," said Haney. "Several of my training partners were once Soldiers. This is a way to say thank you for all their sacrifices and hard work."
Haney will be hosting the second annual Physique and Fitness Games Oct. 28-29 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Georgia.
The two-day expo will serve as a fundraiser for Haney's Harvest House, an organization that provides a mentoring program for boy ages 8-17.
It will feature activities for children, teens and adults. There will also a variety of events to attend, including an arm wrestling competition, a powerlifting competition, a Strongman/Woman competition and a cheerleading competition.
"I live in Fayetteville, Georgia, but I've been part of the fabric of Atlanta for the last 29 years," said Haney. "I've known all of the city officials there. People will be coming from all over the United States to compete in the games."
Haney considers fitness to be very important. Once chairman to the president's council on fitness and sports, he helped share health and physical information.
"We worked hand and hand with the Department of Health and Human Services to help establish a protocol as to what health and fitness should look like to the country," said Haney.
Haney hopes to partner with the Army again in the future. "We're looking at having fitness games set up on some of the military bases, particular here at Fort Benning," he said. "We hope to come up with some great ideas and opportunities."
