As the Army celebrates the Year of the NCO, the 650th Military Intelligence Group recently recognized one of its NCOs as the Support Person of the Year. Staff Sgt. Danny Mallory competed against the unit's best, but in the end, it was Mallory who was selected as the winner.

Mallory is currently assigned to Region I, 650th MI Group in Naples, Italy. His commander, Lt. Col. Maricela Alvarado said, "It was an easy decision to nominate Staff Sgt. Mallory. He is the Region I's bedrock and silent hero. He handles all actions outside of operations and manages paperwork for over 34 unit personnel to include Allied Officers stationed throughout Italy, Portugal, Spain, Greece, and for Region I personnel deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. He skillfully handles and supervises all administrative actions, Travel Vouchers for Allied Officers, in-processing of newly assigned personnel, reviewed all civilian time sheets and created the vehicle monthly reports."

Mallory is a selfless Soldier who never thinks twice about working late to ensure Soldiers, Civilians or family members' actions are properly completed and submitted in a timely manner. He will even work during the weekends to process personnel evaluations, awards and updates to Record Briefs; especially when preparing for a Soldier's upcoming promotion board.

Mallory is a real team player who works closely with his Army element counterpart to resolve issues pertaining to Region I and Army element personnel. It is in the manner which he conducts hundreds of actions a month that has earned him the nickname of "silent hero."

Even though Mallory's actions are minor they are numerous and the discipline he has to get them done results in our Special Agents focusing on their operational mission.

"Staff Sgt. Mallory is the NCO who is the cornerstone of this organization. Without him, many of our personnel actions would never get done as quickly as they do," stated Len Cooper, Region I Information Management officer.

When asked about his personal thoughts on being a successful Noncommissioned Officer, Mallory replied, "Success is not measured by achieving one's goal. It is measured by challenges one must face, the decisions one must make, the obstacles one must overcome, the pain one must endure and the strength one must gather."
