(FORT BENNING, Ga.) -- Fort Benning's 2016 Army Ten-Miler Team is ready to compete in this year's ten-miler Oct. 11 in Washington, D.C.
This year's runners are Lt. Col. Duane Patin, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry regiment; Capt. Alex Torre-Santiago, Maneuver Captains Career Course; 2nd Lt. Connor Roche, 2nd Squadron 16th, Cavalry squadron; 2nd Lt. Luke Ranum, 2nd Squadron, 16th Cavalry squadron; 1st Sgt. Blake Simms, Task Force 1-28, 3rd Infantry Division; Spc. Calvin Powell, 75th Ranger Regiment; and Pfc. Arturo Montoya, 75th Ranger Regiment.
"It truly is awesome to have an opportunity to run for the MCoE," said Ranum. "I have always loved running this race for my ROTC program, but now that it is for the MCOE, it's even better."
Team Fort Benning has been training hard, despite most of them being involved in field training exercises with their units in the weeks leading up to the race.
"I was a cross country and track runner in high school and college, but since I've been in the Army running is a healthy lifestyle and the competition aspect gives one a reason to maintain focus in regards to fitness and nutrition," said Patin.
The race route will start at the Pentagon's North Lot, taking in more than 35,000 participants through scenic Washington, D.C. -- by Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Washington Memorial, the National Mall, the Jefferson Memorial and finishing back at the Pentagon.
