FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (Sept. 23, 2016) -- The Center for Army Lessons Learned received the Army Superior Unit Award, Sept. 23, in a ceremony at the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.

The award is for CALL's outstanding meritorious service in collecting, analyzing and disseminating lessons learned to the total Army force and its global unified action partners during the period July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015.

According to Army Regulation 600-8-22, the ASUA was established by the Secretary of the Army to recognize outstanding meritorious performance of a unit during peacetime of a difficult and challenging mission under extraordinary circumstances.

During what was its 30th anniversary year, CALL produced eight handbooks and nine newsletters, as well as multiple impressions reports and information papers for the warfighter. This work was in addition to shipping more than 100,000 publications in response to Soldiers' requests and answering 350 requests for information from the field.

The Army also recognized CALL's work as facilitator for the Army Lessons Learned Forum. The ALLF rapidly identifies issues and best practices around the globe; drives doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities solutions; and leads changes to tactics, techniques, and procedures all in an effort to improve readiness.

"CALL has been, and continues to be, an engine for change in our Army," said Col. Michael Pappal, CALL director. "I am extremely proud to lead an organization of such high caliber that provides such an important service to the total force."

Soldiers assigned to CALL from July 1, 2014, to July 1, 2015, are authorized to wear the Army Superior Unit Award on their uniform throughout their career. Soldiers who did not participate in the cited action, but who are assigned to the unit, are authorized temporary wear of the unit award.
