PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- "Today is a significant day. Command Sgt. Maj. Wright is relinquishing responsibility and Command Sgt. Maj. Sheila Royal is assuming responsibility of the Garrison and the installation it supports," said Picatinny Arsenal's Garrison Commander, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Ivey, during a Change of Responsibility Ceremony on Sept. 23.

The outgoing Command Sergeant Major, Command Sgt. Maj. Hu'Dene Wright arrived to the installation in 2014.

"Her contributions to this installation have been immeasurable," said Ivey.

As command sergeant major of the Garrison and installation, Wright:

•Planned and executed four Military Balls.

•Served as a key member of the committee responsible for planning and executing the NJ Fallen Service Members Tree Memorial and 9/11 Observance.

•Organized the bi-annual Fellowship Social, another event that invited our neighbors onto the installation and enabled Military and Civilians to develop long term relationships.

•Coordinated APFTs, Installation Runs, and chairperson for the Soldier Fund, Youth Review Board, and Case Review Committee.

•Ensured Picatinny's Child Development Center (CDC), was a safe facility for children. Due to her actions and the actions of our CDC personnel, Department of the Army found no discrepancies during the latest four-day inspection of the CDC.

•Identify areas of concern, and develop solutions with tenants, fellow services, and local governmental agencies to meet the expectations of the Picatinny community.

•Oversaw installation cleanup.

•Tracked compliance of work space inspections.

•Advised the commander on matters affecting the Garrison and Installation such as Military and Civilian awards, flags, promotion boards, judicial and non-judicial actions, Interactive Customer Evaluation comments and resolutions, and surveys for Equal Employment Opportunity and Housing.

•Facilitated and attended meetings, training, and After Action Reviews with mutual aide partners to ensure the Full Scale Active Shooter Exercise of 2016 was successful.

•Volunteered to be the keynote speaker for the Chaplain in the first Prayer Breakfast in over four years. Also assisted with the planning and execution of the door-to-door Morale and Welfare Visits, enabling the Garrison Commander to observe first- hand quality of life concerns for Balfour Beatty and the Chaplain to connect with all residents.

•Worked with the Family Members of a deceased Garrison employee and the Chaplain to put together a Memorial Ceremony in honor of his service to the Nation.

•Assisted with Cultural Observances.

"As we say farewell to Command Sgt. Maj. Wright, we also welcome a new member to the team, Command Sgt. Maj. Sheila Royal," said Ivey.

"She comes with a wealth of experience and an exceptional reputation as a caring, focused, and competent leader. As you can see from her bio, she has experienced high levels of success at almost every level of the Army. She has experience in Aviation units, medical units, artillery units, Human Resource Command, signal units, recruiting units, EO [Equal Opportunity] assignments light organizations, heavy organizations, and garrisons."

"Royal will advise me and the staff here on how to best spend our budget. She will assume responsibility for key projects and events identified by the installation commander," said Ivey.
