ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- 1st Sgt. Matthew Lashley, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, passed the Headquarters and Headquarters Company first sergeant responsibilities to 1st Sgt. Efren Delpilar, material management noncommissioned officer, here, Sept. 8.
ASC HHC's first sergeant is responsible for working closely with the commander to ensure the unit is disciplined, motivated, trained, healthy, and proficient at completing their duties.
Delpilar said he will focus on readiness by helping to improve the health and wellness of the company.
"To my Soldiers, both officers and enlisted, my door is always open if you need anything at all," he said. "As your first sergeant, it is my job to take care of you and ensure that your needs and the needs of your family are met."
Lashley, who assumed responsibility in September 2015, thanked ASC leadership for their trust in appointing him to the position. He also thanked his colleagues, family and friends for their support.
Lashley, who said he will return to ASC after a short leave, also said he has a lot of confidence in Delpilar.
"1st Sgt. Delpilar, I truly believe the command sergeant major has selected the best qualified noncommissioned officer to put in this position," said Lashley. "You are a true professional, and I know you will do great things."
Capt. Michael Rear, headquarters commandant, ASC, thanked Lashley for his service and welcomed Delpilar.
Delpilar's lateral promotion to first sergeant occurred shortly before the change of command ceremony. Lt. Col. Aaron Fitzsimmons, chief of supply division, Distribution Management Center, ASC, officiated the promotion.
