FORT RUCKER, Ala. (August 31, 2016) - This upcoming Monday, our Nation will pause to honor the contributions of American workers. Vibrant industry and a committed workforce keep our Army and sister services ready to fight and triumph when called. We thank them and you for working tirelessly to maintain our freedoms and way of life.

Many of you will be traveling to enjoy the long weekend, so remember time on the road increases your exposure to risk. Based on traffic fatalities thus far this calendar year, the National Safety Council is predicting the deadliest Labor Day weekend for U.S. drivers since 2008. Complacency and indiscipline are neither a purely military nor civilian problem - they are common enemies we should be working together to eliminate on every highway and back road.

As a Soldier or civilian employee, you and your family members are more than a number. You and they deserve to be more than a statistic this Labor Day and every day. Make a plan, be responsible and always drive to arrive safely.

We wish you and yours a happy and safe Labor Day!
