MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, Romania -- U.S. Army soldiers with the 10th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, from Fort Stewart, Georgia, have completed a construction project as part of Resolute Castle, with the 194th Engineer Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard at Mihail Kogalniceanu (MK) air base, Romania.

Resolute Castle is a military infrastructure improvement effort taking place in several countries spread throughout Eastern Europe. The 10th Eng. Bn. was tasked with demolishing and removing existing infrastructure at MK air base in order to facilitate upcoming improvements and position the installation to be a major logistics and transportation hub for the region.

Resolute Castle 2016 provided an excellent opportunity for U.S. soldiers to work with a foreign military. While at MK airbase 10th En. Bn. soldiers worked side-by-side with UM 01877 Pantelimon, a Romanian air force construction unit. This partnership prepared designated sites for infrastructure improvement while simultaneously developing soldiers' engineering skills and improving their ability to coordinate with allied contractors and engineers.

In order to accomplish their goals in the allotted time, junior 10th En. Bn. leaders sometimes pooled their equipment and personnel with UM 01877 to accomplish long duration tasks on assigned projects.

By interacting with Romanian contractors and air force personnel, 10th En. Bn. soldiers served as ambassadors, showcasing U.S. military professionalism to the Romanian military and people.

10th En. Bn. soldiers are deployed as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a U.S. led effort in Eastern Europe reaffirming U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and enduring peace and stability in the region.
