EDINBURGH, Scotland -- U.S. Army Europe's Band and Chorus has been busy representing the U.S. Army with daily performances at the 2016 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the historic Edinburgh Castle.

The U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus, which is the only group from the United States to perform at this year's Tattoo, has been performing alongside British military bands, Highland Dancers, the Jordanian Armed Forces Band and Drill Team, the Nepal Army Band, and the New Zealand Army Band, as well as conducting outreach working with other military bands and performance groups to share American-style music and give instrument demonstrations.

"The Tattoo has grown to become one of the longest-running and most successful military and cultural extravaganzas in the world," said Retried British Brig. Gen. David Allfrey, chief executive and producer of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, at a press conference before the 2016 Tattoo started. "The Tattoo is so much more than a military spectacle; it's a unique opportunity to bring together a wide variety of people in a single moment of celebration. You will arrive as strangers but depart as friends."

Military tattoos are performances designed to connect a worldwide audiences with international military traditions, history, and esprit de corps. The Edinburgh Castle has been home to the military musical performances since 1950. In that time, it has hosted performers from nearly 50 countries from across six continents.

According to the concert series' website, performers from over 48 countries have taken part in the Tattoo, and around 30% of the 220,000 people in the audience each year are from outside of Scotland. This year's tattoo began Aug. 5, and will run through Aug. 27.
