Ft. Eustis Va. August 11, 2016. U.S. Army Soldiers from HHC, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) conducted the Combat Lifesaver Course (CLS)
Soldiers might not always have a medic close to them in the battlefield, it's important for Soldiers to get CLS certified so they can respond and treat injuries until the medics arrives or the casualty can be moved to the hospital.
"Combat Lifesaver is a bridge between the self-aid/buddy-aid (first aid) training. The Combat Lifesaver is a nonmedical Soldier who provides lifesaving measures as a secondary mission as his/her primary (combat) mission allows. The Combat Lifesaver may also assist the combat medic in providing care and preparing casualties for evacuation when the Combat Lifesaver has no other combat duties to perform." Explains Ssg. Kelly McGalliard, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary), Medical Detachment NCO.
With two primary instructors and nine assistant instructors CLS certification includes two parts: a week in classroom material and a hands-on exercise that will test the ability of the Soldier to treat the casualty and apply everything learned in classroom.
