REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Aug. 9, 2016) -- Government employees can support a Redstone Arsenal effort by donating nonperishable food items to "Feds Feed Families Food Drive" Campaign during August. U.S. Army Aviation, Missile, Research, Development and Engineer Center's employees are encouraged to bring in unused food items, and place contributions in the designated bins located in Building 5400 Southeast Lobby. Suggested items include canned meats, vegetables, fruits and soups, peanut butter, pasta, and cereal.

AMRDEC is one of 15 different government agencies rising to the challenge to double the weight of Redstone's contribution of 2,617 pounds of food donation last year. F4D Site Coordinator, Kendra Brown said, "I was overwhelmed with the number of responses of people wanting to get involved. It makes me feel good about participating in this project and encourages me to continue advocating for this cause."

This is the eighth year that the United States Department of Agriculture has partnered with the Department of Defense on this nationwide initiative to raise awareness about hunger. This program was designed to help food banks and pantries stay stocked during the summer when they usually experience high demand and low donations.

All nonperishable donations received from RSA will be donated to the local North Alabama Food Bank. Each year, NAFB distributes over eight million pounds of food to several different emergency food agencies across 11 counties in North Alabama including church pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and children's programs. Its mission is to feed the 80,000 people at risk of hunger and create solutions to end hunger.

Boxes are located inside several other agencies including Garrison Headquarters (Bldg. 4488), Welcome Center (Bldg. 3443), Military One-Stop (Bldg. 3494), Sparkman (Bldg. 5300 and 5308), MWR Library (Bldg. 3323), Toftoy Hall (Bldg. 3495), Bicentennial Chapel (Bldg. 376), Child Development Centers, School Age Services, Youth Center, Post Exchange, and Shoppettes.
