On 05 August 2016, after more than 36 years of service, the Army said farewell to LTG Thomas Spoehr during his retirement ceremony at the Pentagon. LTG Spoehr was commissioned in 1980 as a chemical officer after graduating from the College of William and Mary. Since that time, he has served in many unique and diverse command and staff assignments, culminating as the Director of the Army's Office of Business Transformation (OBT).

Under his exemplary leadership, he has overseen many initiatives and programs, contributing significantly to the Army becoming a more effective and efficient institution to meet the challenges of the 21st century. His combined experience and reflective thinking has rightfully earned him the reputation of being one of the Army's most authentic strategic leaders.

The Soldiers, Civilians, and contractors of OBT will miss LTG Spoehr's deep, sincere care and trust that he has faithfully demonstrated to all throughout his career. The Army is a better institution because of his service.
