Four employees from Regional Health Command -- Central were presented U.S. Army Medical Command Facility Awards during the 53rd American Society of Health Engineers conference July 11th.
Aaron Hicks, an engineer from Fort Carson, Colo.; Rashad Rajab, a facility manager from Fort Carson, Colo.; Jason Burns, a project manager from Fort Sill, Okla.; and, Kim Duncan, a facility operator from Fort Polk, La., received the awards from Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Facilities/G9., Col. Micheal D. Brennan. Awards presented included the R. B. Maynor Memorial Quality Assurance Evaluation Award, the Barney Richmond Award, and the Barney Richmond Facility Management Support Staff Award.
Hicks received the R. B. Maynor Memorial Quality Assurance Evaluation Award for his role in ensuring high standards of quality for projects are being met at Evans Army Community Hospital.
The R. B. Maynor Award is presented annually to an engineer or medical staff. The awardee is nominated by another staff member. That staff member must submit a detailed account of the person's qualities and how they maintained the quality of projects and the facility, along with a brief position description. Nominations are reviewed by a board of eight officials who then select an awardee.
The award is named after the late R. B. Maynor, who served on the MEDCOM Technical Assistance Team from April 1995 to January 2002.
This year's awardee, Aaron Hicks, worked with Maynor on multiple projects and reported being present for the first unofficial award presented. "R. B. was instrumental in getting the current Fire Alarm system installed and certified here at Evans US Army Community Hospital. In fact, the first unofficial R. B. Maynor award was presented here at EACH after the successful completion of the Fire Alarm project. We invited his daughter and she participated in the ceremonial presentation of that first R. B. Maynor award." Hicks spoke of Maynor's great dedication to his work, his straight forward way of speaking, and how he could remember a conversation word for word that occurred six months ago. "I cannot think of any award that I will cherish more than this one because of who and what it represents."
Rashad was recognized for his commitment and work ethic with the Barney Richmond Award. "It is certainly an honor and a privilege to receive this award," said Rashad.
Burns and Duncan received the Barney Richmond FM Support Staff Award for their exceptional work on a day-to-day basis. "None of us in Facility Management do what we do for any type of award or accolade, but simply because we love our job and strive to provide the best for those we serve. I am only a small part of an overall wonderful team consisting of BJACH, RHC-C and MEDCOM and it is to this wonderful team I want to say thank you!" Duncan said.
Burns also called the award an honor and said, "this is a team effort from the commander down to the gentlemen swinging the hammers."
The Barney Richmond Award and Barney Richmond FM Support Staff Award is presented to an employee in any department relating to a medical facility, such as budget management, maintenance, project development and inventory management. A committee of seven receives the nomination packets from all the medical facilities in the Army and chooses an awardee from the submissions.
All awardees were nominated by supervisors. Nominations had to be approved by the hospital commander and regional commander before going to MEDCOM.
