REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (June 15, 2016) -- Four West Point cadets are in for an exciting and educational summer at the U. S. Army Test and Evaluation Command's U.S. Army Redstone Test Center or RTC.

RTC has served for several years as a host organization for students who have chosen to engage in West Point's Advanced Individual Academic Development program known as AIAD. The program is aimed at providing practical, professional development opportunities for mostly mechanical engineering students.

According to West Point's website, the program provides cadets with an opportunity to observe and implement concepts from their coursework; enables cadets to broaden their perspectives; and provides them with practical, advanced education related to their responsibilities as future leaders.

"We support the AIAD mission by essentially providing the practical piece of the professional development puzzle -- the centerpiece that ties together the classroom experience," said Maj. Zach Keefer, experimental test pilot at RTC.

RTC is hosting four students for a three-week period in June. During the first two weeks, the students will benefit from various classes and flight experiences at RTC's airfield. The last week of their visit, they will be out on a test range observing test flights and other aspects of testing.

"We hope students are learning the role testing plays in the Army," Keefer said. "We also hope they will become advocates for the testing process, and when they are in the field, they help educate other soldiers about all the efforts that go into ensuring they have the absolute best equipment."
