Chambersburg, PA -- In July, approximately 100 reservists total from the two Ordnance companies worked alongside Letterkenny Munitions Center Civilian employees to gain knowledge and hands-on experience associated with their Military Occupational Specialties.
Letterkenny Munitions Center recently hosted U.S. Army Reservists from the 351st and 826th Ordnance Companies. Reservists from the 351st Ordnance Company from Romney, WV, spent one week in July training at LEMC. Additionally, a second rotation of Reservists from the 826th Ordnance Company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, conducted their two-week training.
"The personnel here have been awesome! LEMC gave us the specific training that our Soldiers needs, including training for our mechanics and maintenance personnel who don't often get that type of hands-on training with vehicles and systems that they have here," said 2nd Lt. Ian Richardson of the 826th Ordnance Company. "The workforce made sure to include the Soldiers in their daily tasks to give them hands-on experience. Our Soldiers received training in multiple MOSs and the missions have been extremely helpful and enjoyable."
Reservists spend their days working alongside their LEMC Civilian counterparts rotating through seven different operations including shipping and receiving, blocking and bracing, inspection, missile maintenance, and demilitarization operations. The Soldiers were able to both enhance their knowledge and skills through this training, while also supporting LEMC's shipment of munitions to both U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command.
"We continue to receive great support from the Reserve Component and are glad we can support their Annual Training requirements." said Lt. Col. Trenton J. Conner, commander of Letterkenny Munitions Center. "The timing could not be better either. Summer is a peak season for us, and with the additional outload requirements supporting overseas shipments, we are glad to have Soldiers here to help."
LEMC frequently partners with U.S. Army Reservists and National Guard Units to offer training opportunities to Soldiers. The training and experience, which would otherwise be inaccessible to the unit, is invaluable to the Soldiers.
The first rotation from the 826th Ordnance Company trained at LEMC during June and the final rotation will cycle through training at LEMC in August bringing their training total to nearly 90 reservists.
LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for Joint Forces and international partner nations.
